Groundhogs Day

Did you ever see the movie "Groundhogs Day" with Bill Murray in it?  In the film he gets caught in a 24 hr time loop, and has to keep repeating the same day over and over again.  This kinda exemplifies the bad side of our habits.  Most people live out the same routine, day in and day out.  As you go through your week, with the same morning ritual every day, driving to work or school the exact same way, you are creating neural networks in your brain around these habits.  Neurons that fire together, wire together and create even stronger connections with each other, making it even more easier to fire that pattern contained in your neural network. You are now living inside your box, safely tucked away in your comfort zone, a creature of habit. The longer you stay there, the harder it becomes to do something novel. The harder it is to think outside of the box. Try doing things different tomorrow, like brushing your teeth with the opposite hand, take a different route to work or school.  I think you may find this harder than you initially think, because in order to do it, you have to remember, and that will be hard once you start your routine again. Strive to seek out new experiences. Take a risk and do something you might normally avoid. Rediscover the passion you held as a child for exploration. There is a whole new world out there waiting for you.
